The Dirty Dozen

In our society today it is so important to know the quality of the foods we are eating and feeding our family. It has been said that the average Americans consumes nearly 1/2 gallon of pesticides a year. Apples are a number one culprit. Not just to skin but into the meat of the fruit itself as the chemicals are added as they are grown. I have also been reading a lot about organic coffee and how much non organic contains chemicals .My next splurge will probably to costcos web page to order some organic that is highly rated by it's user.

Here is a list of the foods along with a recipe to clean them as much as possible . Hopefully this will keep your family healthier.

THE DIRTY DOZEN

There are 12 foods that you SHOULD always BUY ORGANIC. They are:

Celery

Potatoes

Spinach

Rasberries

Grapes

Apples

Blueberries

Strawberries

Cherries

Leafy greens

Pears

Peaches

If you are not able to buy these organic you can make homemade fruit and vegetable cleaner

FRUIT AND VEGETABLE CLEANER

If you are not able to buy these organic you can make homemade fruit and vegetable cleaner

- 1 cup water

- 1 cup white vinegar

- 1 TB baking soda

- 1/2 lemon

Pour the solution into a spray bottle and spray your produce. Let the solution sit on your fruits and veggies for about 5 minutes before rinsing it off. Vinegar is anti-bacterial and lemon is a natural astringent
